The Level B Research Fellow will be an essential contributor to our work on Climate Change Communication Research at Monash Malaysia. The CCCR node conducts evidence-based research across communications, social science and biophysical science that is able to inform climate communication programs in South-east Asia. In particular, the climate literacy, concern and behavioural response of diverse social groups in Malaysia to climate change needs to be comprehensively understood prior to any recommendations for communications strategies and policy responses.

The Node brings together expertise in SASS, with collaborators in various Schools at Monash’s Malaysia and Indonesia campuses, and the existing team in MCCCRH.

Appointees should have an emerging track record of high-quality research in the field/s of the environmental humanities, environmental communication/media, and/or social sciences, with a focus on climate change. This can include, but is not limited to, climate change and:

  • Urban Studies; 
  • Migration;
  • Technology; 
  • Communication; 
  • Media;
  • Politics And Policy; 
  • Film; 
  • Literature; 
  • History; 
  • Sociology; 
  • Gender And Justice; 
  • Race And Justice; 
  • Health And Social Care
  • Ethics. 

Reporting line: The position reports to the Head of School. 

Supervisory responsibilities: Not applicable

Financial delegation and/or budget responsibilities: Not applicable

Key responsibilities

  1. Project management of the Node's core business, including external and internal communications, hub-node-node liaison, research ethics and Node day-to-day finance management. 
  2. Communication strategy development and implementation, including website. 
  3. Development and implementation of impact strategies related to the Node's core business.
  4. Collaboration with colleagues across the international network of Nodes in order to facilitate opportunities for external grant applications and partnerships.
  5. Develop an active record of publication and build a portfolio of external-funded research grants. 

Key selection criteria

Education/Qualifications

  1. A doctoral qualification (PhD) or equivalent qualification.
  2. Demonstrated capacity to lead impact and knowledge activities with a high-performing international team.
  3. Demonstrated experience in project management and related organisational skills in an academic context.
  4. Excellent communication skills with diverse groups.
  5. Publication record in high-quality peer-reviewed journals.
  6. Fluency in one of the languages of Malaysia is an advantage.
