My research focuses on the use of community partnership approaches for developing sustainable, community-based interventions to prevent mental health disorders among youth living in communities of concentrated poverty. A recent project involved the use of action research to adapt an evidence-based depression prevention program known as RISE, for high school students exposed to the chronic stressors common in low-income urban communities and to evaluate it's effectiveness when delivered in the novel setting of a neighborhood after-school program. Currently, my research team is evaluating whether the effects of the RISE program are sustained over a 3-4 month period.
