Position – The College of Public Health and Human Sciences at Oregon State University (OSU) invites applications for an Associate/Full Professor position as the Jo Anne Leonard Petersen Endowed Chair for Gerontology and Family Studies. This position is a full-time (1.00 FTE), 9-month appointment in the program of Human Development and Family Sciences in the School of Social and Behavioral Health Sciences.

Qualifications – An earned doctorate in human development and/or family science, gerontology, psychology, sociology, public health, or a related field. Candidates must demonstrate an established and sustained history of well-defined and funded scholarship on the intersections of family and healthy aging, commensurate with rank. They must also demonstrate evidence of contribution to promoting and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion through research, teaching, and/or service; demonstrate evidence of collaborative leadership; and demonstrate strong commitments to the application and translation of research. In addition, candidates must demonstrate evidence of successful undergraduate and graduate teaching, graduate student mentoring, and a record of successful professional service.

Preferred qualifications include demonstrated innovative research and diverse perspectives on family caregiving, intergenerational relationships, diverse perspectives in family gerontology or family policy; an established history of developing and engaging with effective in-classroom pedagogy; and an established history of successfully mentoring graduate students from populations under-represented in higher education.

Responsibilities – The Jo Anne Leonard Petersen Endowed Chair for Gerontology and Family Studies is expected to continue a well- established, innovative, and independent research program through application for and receipt of external funds and publications in top-tier, peer- reviewed journals. In addition, this position is responsible for effectively teaching undergraduate and graduate courses; mentoring graduate students; and providing exceptional service to the College, OSU, and the profession. As part of the research assignment, the occupant will provide leadership for interdisciplinary efforts in aging and gerontology within the College. The Petersen Endowed Chair will help lead and mentor faculty and build interdisciplinary teams to address critical issues surrounding the intersection of aging and families. The Chair also will contribute to leadership for the Program on Gerontology and the Center for Healthy Aging Research and will liaise with other existing centers in the College and across campus as appropriate, such as the Hallie E. Ford Center for Healthy Children and Families; the Moore Family Center for Whole Grain Foods, Nutrition, & Preventive Health; the Center for Global Health; and the Linus Pauling Insititute. The Chair will conduct high quality research, translate research into practice, and build the capacities of communities to enhance the health of individuals and families. As part of the teaching assignment, the Petersen Chair will teach courses related to the intersection of aging and family studies.
