Job Description Summary

Position: The Department of Psychological Sciences at Auburn University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level beginning in the upcoming fall semester, August 16, 2026.

Responsibilities: Candidates will contribute to the education and training of undergraduate and graduate students, including teaching courses in the candidate’s area of expertise and providing effective advisement and mentorship to a broad population of students. Candidates are expected to maintain a strong research program, with potential for extramural funding, while contributing to a respectful and supportive learning and working environment.

Minimum Qualifications

Qualifications: Candidates should have an independent research program in clinical psychology, broadly defined, with interests that complement or bridge strengths with the department’s existing faculty. A promising record of publications and a high potential for external funding (assistant) or a record of extramural funding (associate) is required. A PhD in Psychology or closely related field is required; all but dissertation (ABD) candidates will be considered, but must have a Ph.D. by the start date, or the offer will be withdrawn. A Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from an APA-accredited program is desired but is not required.

A Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from an APA-accredited program is desired but is not required. The ability to teach graduate assessment courses and/or supervise psychoeducational assessments is strongly desired but is not required.

The statement of teaching interests should describe the skills and experiences that have prepared you to train undergraduate and graduate students from a wide variety of backgrounds. Auburn University’s clinical program adheres to a scientist-practitioner training model and offers state-of-the-art resources for clinical research, including excellent graduate students, ample laboratory space, access to the Auburn University MRI Research Center, the Auburn University Psychological Services Center, and other facilities. The clinical program has been APA-accredited since 1981, and in 2019 we were awarded the maximum accreditation period of 10 years. We have 11 primary faculty and two affiliated faculty with areas of expertise across the lifespan that include eating disorders, trauma, suicide, substance use, internalizing disorders, and neurodevelopmental disorders.
