Eastern Michigan University’s (EMU) School of Social Work is now accepting applications for a  tenure-track Assistant Professor position.  This position starts August 2023.

The School of Social Work’s grassroots mission of empowerment-oriented practice guides the curriculum of our CSWE-accredited BSW and MSW programs.  We stand behind our School’s mission as we fight against discrimination of any kind and advance anti-racist conversations and action in the classroom, throughout our University and within our local communities.  The School of Social Work educates a diverse student body and believes social workers impact change through direct service, the creation of equitable social welfare policies and laws, and community-based partnerships. We are committed to espousing equity, diversity, and inclusion as values we honor, advance, and practice.

Founded in 1849 as a small teacher's college, EMU is a major learning and research institution with a distinct mix of comprehensive academic resources and strong community initiatives.  We offer more than 200 undergraduate majors, minors and certificates, plus more than 150 graduate programs to more than 16,000 students. The School of Social Work is located within the College of Health and Human Services with over 350 undergraduate (BSW) and 170 graduate (MSW) students.

This is a full-time, eight-month academic appointment.  The successful applicant will have an MSW from a CSWE-accredited program and a DSW or PhD in social work or a closely related field.  Candidates must also have the equivalent of at least 5 years of full-time, post-MSW degree social work experience.

Successful candidates will teach courses in our BSW and MSW programs.  The BSW program focuses on generalist practice while the MSW program offers advanced generalist training in three fields of practice:  Children & Family Services, Mental Health & Substance Use Recovery Services, and Health & Aging Services.  The social work program provides flexible programming and a curriculum focused on developing practice competencies.  MSW classes are scheduled evenings and Saturdays to accommodate student schedules while undergraduate courses have both day and evening scheduling.

Candidates should have interest in developing and implementing hybrid and online learning courses, as well as in-person teaching courses.  We seek candidates who have practice experience and scholarly expertise relevant to the needs of culturally diverse populations and demonstrate a commitment to social justice.  Candidates will have responsibilities for teaching, scholarship and service within the SSW, the College, the University, and the larger community.
