The Auburn University Department of Political Science seeks a Professor of Practice in Public Administration. This is a full-time, nine-month, non-tenure-track position. The appointment begins on August 16, 2025, and is eligible for annual renewal based on job performance, need, and funding availability.
Candidates must be able to offer public administration and management courses in-person and online at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful candidate should be broadly trained in public administration, have a passion for teaching, and have a professional career in the public sector that informs classroom pedagogy and practice. We seek individuals who can contribute extensively to the core curriculum in our NASPAA-accredited MPA Program and one or more of its certificates and can contribute to teaching in our undergraduate public administration program.
Position Responsibilities: The candidate is expected to teach three courses per semester, mainly at the graduate level. In addition, the successful candidate will supervise students' ePortfolio projects, coordinate the program's new online MPA under the supervision of the MPA director, and perform assigned service responsibilities. Summer salary for supervision of the online MPA and teaching summer courses are available depending on the online program's success and student demand. Courses to be taught include introductory public administration and some combination of personnel/human resources, financial management and budgeting, and intergovernmental relations. Applicants should also be able to contribute courses to one or more of the MPA program's graduate certificates and/or specializations. Candidates must be willing to develop and deliver courses in a variety of distance education modalities as well as embrace pedagogical training for in-person and online courses to help them translate their professional experiences into student learning and success.
