FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The Department of Psychology invites applications for a tenure-track assistant or associate professorship beginning Fall 2020. Candidates must have an active record of research/scholarship/creative works, and a strong commitment to teaching at the undergraduate and possibly graduate levels. We are seeking candidates with an established program of research in A) health psychology, B) organizational behavior, C) developmental (early childhood or aging), or D) any area with a strong focus on experimental methods and advanced statistical procedures. We are especially interested in candidates with the potential for interdisciplinary research, who can and will collaborate with faculty from departments such as health sciences, economics, and computer science.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and possibly graduate level courses in their areas of expertise; develop and maintain an active research program; advise students; provide service to the department, college, university, and community, i.e. committee, administrative, supervisory, and other assignments normally associated with a full-time tenure-track academic appointment. Evening teaching may be required.

The Lehman College campus is located in Bronx, New York and is a senior college within The City University of New York (CUNY) system. Lehman is the only senior college of The City University of New York in the Bronx and is recognized as a Hispanic Serving Institution. The college serves mainly undergraduate students preparing them for employment, the professions and further study. The teaching load is 18 hours per year and although the college has a strong teaching focus, a strong commitment to research and scholarship is expected. Service to the college, university and community is part of the mission as is a clear commitment to student engagement including advisement. Teaching is reduced for junior faculty over the first five years for scholarly development and all faculty are actively encouraged to seek external funding. Opportunities are available for faculty development and travel awards. Lehman College and CUNY internal funding is available through competitive grants for scholarship support.

Lehman College is the headquarters of the CUNY Institute for Health Equity (CIHE). The Institute addresses gaps in the health status of New York’s underserved ethnic/racial populations. Building on the working relationship that CUNY campuses have with surrounding communities as well as the academic resources of each college, the Institute’s work is to identify and address the social determinants of health that contribute to the high rates of morbidity and mortality among these populations. One of the goals of the CIHE is to facilitate and strengthen multidisciplinary cooperation and health equity research within the CUNY community and beyond. QUALIFICATIONS
Ph.D. in Psychology or a related academic field is required on commencement of the appointment. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
The preferred candidate is expected to have a commitment to excellence in teaching, supervising, and mentoring of students. Additionally, they must be actively involved in research and scholarship with expectations to publish, supervise student research, and seek external funding to support research.
