Associate Dean for Outreach, Engagement and Collections Recently embarking on a historic $2.1 billion comprehensive campaign, the University of Kentucky set an ambitious path to be a destination for students, scholars, and healthcare providers to forge new discoveries and arrive at world-class outcomes. University of Kentucky Libraries is vital to fulfilling the goals of enhancing and expanding the university’s research enterprise, and we are looking for an innovative and collaborative Associate Dean for Outreach, Engagement and Collections to provide leadership and vision for a range of user-focused services in support of the University of Kentucky’s educational, research, and service missions.

Reporting to the Dean of Libraries, this reconfigured position, focused on building upon and enhancing engagement with campus, will lead an approximately 59 FTE in a portfolio that includes the University of Kentucky Libraries’ subject liaison program, five branch libraries (Design Library, Education Library, Fine Arts Library, Medical Center Library, and Science and Engineering Library), educational services, reference services, and collections program, including collections strategy, acquisitions, and resource sharing. The AD will develop and build upon partnerships across campus and position the Libraries as an essential partner within the University’s educational and research enterprises. The AD will strengthen core services and support the development of new services and programming for evolving teaching and research approaches and methods. As a member of the Libraries’ senior leadership team, the AD will serve on the Executive Committee and participate in planning, budget, operations and personnel decisions for the organization. They will assist in the implementation of the Libraries’ strategic plan and lead an evolving portfolio of projects and priorities, in a collaborative, dynamic and rapidly changing environment.

As a member of the UK Libraries faculty, the Associate Dean for Outreach, Engagement and Collections participates in planning, shared governance, and participates in UK Libraries-wide faculty activities. This is a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track position and requires scholarship, professional development, and service that contributes to the effectiveness of the UK Libraries, the university, and the profession.

Required Qualifications

  • ALA-accredited graduate degree in Library and Information Science or advanced degree in a comparable field from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of five years of supervisory and leadership experience.
  • Full commitment to the creation of a diverse and inclusive culture.
  • Experience leading, developing or implementing liaison, educational, reference or collections services.
  • Demonstrated leadership, management and interpersonal skills, which encourage teamwork, collaboration and relationship building.
  • Broad understanding of current and emerging trends and the evolving nature of research libraries.
  • Ability to meet the requirements of a tenure-track position through scholarship, professional service, and ongoing professional development.
