The University of Maryland Center for Early Childhood Education and Intervention (CECEI) is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Associate who has strong quantitative expertise and interest in applied developmental research in the early childhood arena. The initial full-time appointment will be for two years, starting in June 2019, with the possibility of a renewal depending on available funding. The position involves contributing to the evaluation of a variety of early childhood interventions.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Psychology, Education, Human Development, or a closely related discipline by the time of appointment. In addition, successful applicants will have significant expertise in quantitative methods, with experience both in large-scale data sets and small-scale original studies. A beginning track record of publication, excellent academic writing skills, and experience with management and analysis of data derived from evaluation research are preferred.

Under the direct supervision of Dr. Brenda Jones Harden, the postdoctoral fellow’s responsibilities will include data collection, data management, data analysis, preparation of publications and conference presentations (both collaboratively and as lead author), and supervision and mentoring of other research staff. The successful candidate will also have a demonstrated ability to work independently and contribute to a collaborative team environment.

The postdoctoral research associate will receive mentorship in conducting evaluation research with low-income and ethnically diverse samples. They will also have the opportunity to develop their data analytic, research, and writing skills, as well as advance their statistical techniques (e.g., latent growth curve modeling, multilevel structural equation modeling) through courses that are offered through CECEI’s home department that are free to departmental staff. The postdoctoral research associate will be expected to apply developing skills to analyzing, presenting, and publishing data related to the goals of CECEI as well as their specific interests.
