Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Associate to join the Office of Research Advancement (ORA) at the University at Buffalo under the supervision of the Director of Research Impacts. ORA supports the University’s research and scholarly community by assisting in the creation of highly competitive proposals in pursuit of external grant and research funding. As a newly created position, the Director of Research Impacts is responsible for creating and establishing an infrastructure for faculty to develop a sound fundable proposal. The primary focus in the creation of the research impacts infrastructure is to expand the public reach and societal benefits of faculty research.

The postdoctoral fellow will assist the Director of Research Impacts in building the infrastructure for broader impacts, community engagement, and building internal as well as external campus relationships.

This two-year position will provide the postdoc the opportunity to:
  • Assist with building the infrastructure and further develop a core disciplinary knowledge and deeper understanding of the broad research impacts related to DEI and its impact on community collaborations and/or partnerships with UB faculty, PIs, and researchers.
  • Gain experience with collaborative, interdisciplinary, and multidisciplinary teams that design, conduct, and sustain projects that emphasize research broader impacts.

Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Assist the Director of Research Impacts with creating the infrastructure to support faculty needs for developing broader impacts/ DEI projects for grant proposals:
  • Compiling, assessing, and updating information about various broader impacts programs at UB, including centers and offices that support DEI initiative.
  • Maintain a searchable database of UB faculty (and their research/programs) who have successfully worked with community-based organizations.
  • Build relationships and collaborate with key campus stakeholders across the university involved in research (i.e., STEM, Social Sciences, Education, Humanities).
2. Share/ transfer knowledge about evidence-based best practices related to broader impacts and DEI:
  • Conduct literature reviews to summarize findings on broader impacts, DEI, and/or community engagement.
  • Create a library of ongoing research in research/broader impacts and DEI that identify institutional challenges, barriers, and solutions to inclusion in academic settings.
  • Compile a list of university workforce development, economic development, civic engagement, and educational activities.
  • Assess the needs of the workforce, economic development, and civic engagement groups on campus.
3. Assist in coordinating and delivering training workshops for faculty and PIs.
  • Assist in reviewing and compiling information needed to create workshops and webinars.
  • Assist in the creation of training content (PowerPoint presentations, webinars, videos, etc.)
  • Review and/or edit training materials.
  • Assist with the creation, analysis, and reporting of survey data.
