Field Liaison – Instructor I
Position Number 33731  

The Faculty of Social Work of the University of Manitoba invites applications for a probationary Field Liaison position for the Inner City/Ft. Garry sites at the rank of Instructor I, beginning on January 1, 2025 or on a date mutually agreed upon.  Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The successful candidates will serve as liaisons between the Faculty of Social Work BSW Program (Winnipeg site) and the Winnipeg social work practice community, assist students in the integration of social work theory and practice, assist placement sites and field instructors to structure and maximize student learning experiences and assist the student in maximizing the learning experience in practice by:

  1. Advocating for the quality of the learning experience
  2. Ensuring the inclusion of the social work perspective
  3. Working in partnership with the field instructor to assist the student in the integration of social work practice skills, values, and ethics
  4. Serving as a link between the Faculty of Social Work and each student’s placement site
  5. Communicating to the field education coordinator the student’s progress in the field education component
  6. As well, successful candidates will be expected to participate in the service activities of the faculty as part of their position.

 

Candidates for the field liaison positions must have a completed Master of Social Work degree from an accredited program. Candidates must have field instructor and social work practice experience, possess excellent communication (oral and written) skills, and interpersonal and group facilitation skills with a proven ability to mediate conflict. They must also have demonstrated assessment and problem-solving skills, ability to work independently, have familiarity using technology to conduct virtual site visits, classes, and student meetings, and have a reliable vehicle.  Preferred candidates will have agency experience in a broad range of social work practice settings (e.g., direct/clinical, community development, and administrative/policy).  Teaching experience is an asset.

These positions are based at the Inner City and Fort Garry sites of the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg.  The Faculty of Social Work is one of the largest social work programs in Canada with a proud history of teaching, research, and service spanning over 75 years.  The Faculty offers Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD degrees in Social Work.  Our BSW and MSW programs are fully accredited by the Canadian Association for Social Work Education.  We recently launched a ground-breaking MSW program based in Indigenous Knowledges.  Our faculty is currently engaged in exciting revisions to Indigenize and decolonize our curriculum.  The University of Manitoba is also the home of the NTRC Archives and is the first U15 university to name an Indigenous Vice-President.
