Head, Teaching, Research Support, and Outreach

Indiana University Libraries is seeking an innovative, collaborative, creative, and experienced librarian to help form and lead an interdisciplinary department of fantastic librarians, professional staff, and part-time student employees as they provide both new and more traditional library services in the areas historically known as reference, information literacy, and user engagement. This department results from a merger of two departments currently known as the Scholars’ Commons and Teaching and Learning. The successful candidate will have a thorough knowledge of and enthusiasm for these core services but will also be able to envision how the services might need to change and adapt to new directions at the University. The successful candidate will be accomplished in guiding groups through transition. Responsibilities: Creates and executes a collaborative vision for providing teaching and general research and reference support in the departments engaged in this work. Establishes a work culture reflective of IU Libraries shared values. Supervises a team of 6-8 FTE librarians and staff to plan, execute, manage, promote, and assess services that support faculty teaching and faculty and student research. Participates actively in the day-to-day work of these departments through teaching and providing reference services. Qualifications: Applicants are encouraged to think broadly and communicate how their skills and experiences transfer to the qualifications in ways that may not be obvious. ALA-accredited graduate degree in library or information science; candidates with an advanced degree in a relevant subject area and appropriate experience in an academic setting will also be considered. Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience in an academic library, including a successful record of management and mentoring. Demonstrated commitment to fostering an environment of equity, diversity, and inclusion. Evidence of excellent interpersonal skills and oral and written communication, including presentation and/or teaching and/or training skills.
