In the broadest sense my research examines the role of culture and context in development. I examine developmental issues by combining theoretical ideas from Vygotsky and Bronfenbrenner. My long-term goal is to understand the relationship between the cognitive control network and emotion control network with implications for literacy, problem solving, and academic achievement. Ongoing research in my lab currently examines the development of executive functioning in children and adults, the impact of stress and mindfulness on decision making, and the role of grit and growth mindset in problem solving. Although the focus of my research is developmental, my research interests intersect educational psychology, cognitive psychology and cultural psychology.
