Dr. Wilhelm Peekhaus received his Ph.D. from the Faculty of Information and Media Studies at the University of Western Ontario. His dissertation, which was supervised by Drs. Nick Dyer-Witheford, Samuel Trosow, and Jeffrey Nisker, critically analyzed the Canadian Government’s biotechnology strategy within a neo-Marxist biopolitical framework. This theoretical framework was designed to facilitate an analysis capable of apprehending social resistance being mobilized against various aspects of biotechnology, placing particular emphasis on the information and communication aspects of this technoscience and the struggles against it. While completing his dissertation, Dr. Peekhaus also engaged in research in respect of the privacy of genetic information.
