  • Jean Eddy Saint Paul (Doctor of Philosophy, PhD. in Social Sciences with Specialty in Sociology) is a Professor of Sociology at Brooklyn College of the City University of New York (CUNY). He is known as the Founding Director of the City University of New York’s Haitian Studies Institute (CUNY HSI) housed at Brooklyn College and led the CUNY HSI between Fall 2016 and Spring 2020. During his tenure, the founding director secured $770,000 from the New York City Council. Under his directorship, the Institute organized, co-sponsored and hosted – ten academic lectures with thorough scholars in the field of Haitian studies; four international conferences; two Haitian art exhibits in the Brooklyn College Library; three films screening with international guests; eleven community and student-based activities; and a number of books signings and provocative academic conversations on topics such as - US Foreign policy toward Haiti, US immigration policy toward Haiti and the Caribbean; the impacts of the Haitian Revolution on world politics, among others.\n\nAn expert in social theory, political sociology, and sociology of religion, Professor Saint Paul has also been active in several intellectual fields, including political theory, sociology of citizenship, sociology of law, and Latin American studies. He is a thorough figure in the interdisciplinary field of Haitian studies and has greatly contributed to the historical sociology of politics, culture, and society in Haiti, as well as the U.S. Foreign Policy toward the Caribbean nation. As an authorized voice in Sociology, Latin American Studies, Social Work, Library Science, and Haitian Studies, he has contributed to many popular venues/ media outlets such as NPR (National Public Radio), PBS (WUCF-TV) Global Perspectives TV Show, Vox, America News, TV Globo, The Stream-Al Jazeera, CBS News, Yahoo News; France 24; Norwegian newspaper Klassekampen, MarketWatch, The Christian Science Monitor, Gothamist, The Scholars’ Circle, The City, RTVI Новости in Russia, La Crónica (Mexico), Le Nouvelliste, Le National (Haiti), among many others. He has served as Evaluator and/or Consultant for prestigious foundations and institutions, such as, The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation based in Chicago, and Freedom House based in Washington, D.C. Furthermore, Professor Saint Paul has developed academic projects with The Latin American, Caribbean, and European Division of The Library of Congress.\r\n
