The main focus of my research is comparative federalism and multilevel politics more generally. I explore the patterns and implications of change in federations like Canada or Germany, as well as in regionalized states like the United Kingdom or Italy. I am also interested in the role of municipalities and supra- or international organizations. My current research focuses primarily on four topics:
