Jennifer O’Brien’s research addresses child sexual abuse, delinquency, and behavioral addiction among adolescents and adults. Her research goals include the effective identification of child victims of sex trafficking, and the evaluation of interventions aiming to ameliorate the mental health and behavioral consequences associated with childhood sexual abuse including sexual perpetration, addiction, depression, and anxiety. In addition to her research, O’Brien is an independently licensed clinical social worker with over 10 years of direct practice experience. She has provided services domestically and abroad to child and adult survivors of trauma, juvenile sex offenders, trafficking survivors, and individuals dually diagnosed with substance use and trauma. She also provides clinical supervision to recent MSW graduates seeking licensure.
