Social Psychologist Specializing in Diversity or Culture at the University of Utah. The Department of Psychology at the University of Utah invites applications for a tenure-track ASSISTANT PROFESSOR faculty position in Social Psychology with an emphasis on diversity and/or culture, broadly defined. This proposed hire reflects the Department’s longstanding commitment to diversity (https://psych.utah.edu/diversity/engage.php), and its plan to build on and further develop a critical mass of scholars who focus on Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) (see concurrent search in Applied Cognition https://utah.peopleadmin.com/postings/136891). Candidates from any area in social psychology are encouraged to apply. We seek candidates with expertise in core areas and methodologies of social psychology, including those whose backgrounds lead them to innovative questions and methods. Successful candidates will demonstrate programmatic research with the potential for generating extramural funding, have strong quantitative skills to capture complex research questions related to diversity, and will be able to contribute to core curriculum at undergraduate and graduate levels.

The Social Psychology Program at the University of Utah includes researchers who are interested in understanding the causes and consequences of social categorization and biases and how psychological processes are shaped by and, in turn, shape diverse social interactions, using methods ranging across traditional experimental approaches, advanced quantitative analyses of existing data sets, and applications in specific community settings. Moreover, many of the faculty are engaged in research addressing the bidirectional associations between social processes and health. This work includes both clinical and community samples utilizing a variety of methodological and statistical approaches including dyadic models (e.g., actor-partner), and mental and physical health outcomes. Thus our faculty employ a range of methodologies across different populations, often as part of interdisciplinary approaches with the Psychology Department’s other graduate training programs (Clinical, Cognition and Neural Sciences, and Developmental), as well as additional departments and colleges across campus (e.g., Educational Psychology, Ethnic Studies, Family and Consumer Studies, Gender Studies, Huntsman Cancer Institute, Management, Psychiatry, School of Computing, Social Work); and interdisciplinary centers of excellence such as the Consortium for Families and Health Research (C-FAHR). Candidates who can contribute to these interdisciplinary emphases are especially encouraged to apply.
