Position Summary:

The University of Idaho seeks an expert in early childhood development to join the Margaret Ritchie School of Family and Consumer Sciences. The position is a 9-month, tenure-track position with 50% teaching and advising; 45% scholarship and creative activities; and 5% university service and leadership expectations.

This is an Assistant Professor position with responsibilities focused on teaching undergraduate-and graduate-level courses related to early childhood development and conducting research related to this area of expertise. The successful candidate will advise undergraduate and graduate students; develop an externally funded, internationally recognized research program focused on early childhood development; and provide service to the university, region, state, and appropriate professional organizations.

Teaching & Advising: Teach undergraduate and graduate courses related to early childhood development and family studies, such as but not limited to those related to infancy and early childhood development, research methods, observation, curriculum development, parent-child relationships, guidance, and child/family theory.

Contribute to the development and expansion of undergraduate and graduate programs related to early childhood development and family studies.

Advise undergraduate and graduate students.

Scholarship & Creative Activities: Conduct scholarly research related to early childhood development.

Disseminate results of research to academic, professional audiences, and other stakeholders via multiple venues such as refereed journals, scientific meetings, and outreach.

Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research endeavors related to early childhood development and family studies.

Obtain intramural and extramural funding to support research program and graduate students.

Conduct interdisciplinary research within the unit, college, university, and larger child development research community.

University Service & Leadership: Provide service to the unit, college, university, and professional organizations.

Minimum Qualifications:

Doctorate in child and family studies, child development, developmental psychology, or related discipline. ABD applicants must have degree requirements completed at time of hire.
Substantial graduate-level training in the broad scope of early childhood development.
Evidence of and clear potential for scholarly activity in area of early childhood development.
Ability to conduct funded research and evidence of ability to obtain internal and/or external funding.

Preferred Qualifications:

Expertise and/or interest in conducting interdisciplinary work with faculty in the Margaret Ritchie School of Family and Consumer Sciences.
Intent to conduct research in the Margaret Ritchie School of Family and Consumer Sciences Child Development Laboratory.
Direct experience working with young children in a research and/or teaching setting.
Classroom teaching experience at the college or university level.
Demonstrated ability or clear potential to work on teams.
Experience with distance education methodologies.
Expertise in current trends in child development, such as infant mental health, disabilities, curriculum design (e.g., STEM, Reggio Emilia, Montessori, etc.), and/or adverse childhood experiences.
