Warburg Chair in Political Science & International Relations

Simmons University seeks to fill a two to three-year appointment to its Warburg Chair in International Relations to start August 15, 2019. The preferred candidate will have a distinguished record as a senior practitioner in international relations. S/he might have experience in such fields as diplomacy, international trade, development, policy formulation and implementation, international organizations, international health, or international women's issues. The successful candidate will have been involved with foreign policy formulation at a senior level and preferably will have familiarity with related US policies.
The Warburg Professor is a faculty member in the Department of Political Science and International Relations, but need not have advanced academic qualifications in these (or other) disciplines. Responsibilities include teaching two to three courses per year. These courses generally include a senior seminar and a subject based course designed by the Warburg Chair in conjunction with the chair of the Department. Additionally, the Warburg Chair coordinates discussion-oriented programs and meetings, mentors students for careers in foreign policy, cultivates student opportunities, and brings distinguished speakers to the Simmons community. The Warburg Chair is expected to maintain a regular presence on campus and to participate in activities that help advance the college's strategic goals.
- Higher education degree such as a Bachelors, Masters or Doctorate
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience, such as a state department diplomat or an ambassador
