Utah Valley University is seeking a faculty member, non-tenure track, for a one year lecturer position in the College of Health and Social Sciences teaching Psychology.
This position teaches an assigned 5/5 course load and designs, prepares, and teaches courses delivering content using meaningful and engaging methods with measurable course objectives.
Expected to teach, manage, and supervise individuals and groups in a classroom setting via demonstrations, discussion, experiential learning activities, and visual aids as well as provide evaluation of learning through written and performance tests.
Expected to hold regular office hours and maintaining a student-oriented approach to education.
Graduation from a regionally accredited institution with an appropriate degree in a related field to the coursework being taught. Knowledge and skill in current instructional theories, strategies, techniques, and discipline content. See preferred qualifications for discipline or program-specific minimum qualifications.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of subject matter and course content.
- Demonstrate effective instructional pedagogy including teaching strategies and techniques.
- Possess effective interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to manage, motivate, and evaluate students.
- Ability to communicate effectively and consistently orally and electronically with students.
Earned doctorate (or ABD) in psychology and evidence of excellence in university teaching, and potential excellence in scholarship and service. Specialization area is open, but candidates who can teach candidates who can teach some of the following courses are particularly desired: cognitive psychology, principles of learning, behavioral neuroscience, brain and behavior, sensation and perception, motivation and emotion, psycho-pharmacology, and research methods courses are particularly desired.
Frequent standing, sitting, and walking; continuous ability to see, hear, and speak; Able to lift up to 10 pounds; frequent fine hand manipulation as associated with the use of a computer.
