    Job Description


    The Department of Psychology in the College of Sciences at Old Dominion University (ODU) seeks candidates for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor to support our Ph.D. program with expertise in community psychology. Areas of potential research and teaching may include but are not limited to; ecological perspectives on health, structural determinants of health, community program evaluation, community level prevention and intervention, and innovative use of technology to address community-level challenges.

    The faculty member would be expected to align themselves within one of the concentrations of the Ph.D. program (i.e., Health, Clinical, or Human Factors), to be determined by their interests and research focus. This faculty member will be responsible for:


    • Conducting high quality, programmatic research.

    • Seeking external research funding.

    • Teaching undergraduate courses to support the undergraduate psychology curriculum at ODU.

    • Teaching graduate courses in the Psychology Department.

    • Mentoring Ph.D. students.

    Minimum required education and/or special licenses, registrations, trainings, or certifications



    1. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Psychology or a closely related field.

    2. Candidates who provide evidence that their Ph.D. will be conferred by July 25, 2026 will be considered for the position.


    Minimum required level and type of experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities


     

    They must demonstrate strong potential for developing an independent, funded research program and show accomplishments in and/or potential for quality teaching and mentoring at the graduate and undergraduate level.

    Preferred Qualifications


     

    Preference will be given to candidates with a research program that complements and expands that of current faculty within the Department of Psychology.
