    Department of Political Science
    University of Notre Dame

    Professor

    Location: Notre Dame, IN
    Open Date: Aug 29, 2025
    Deadline:

Description: The University of Notre Dame's Department of Political Science and the Keough School of Global Affairs are searching for one or more faculty members who specialize in the empirical study of democracy. We expect the appointment to be at the level of Full Professor, but we will consider applications from advanced Associate Professors.

    Qualifications:
We define the study of democracy broadly, as research on political regimes and regime change, challenges to democratic institutions, and the study of political behavior. Applicants should have a research agenda that addresses key questions related to democracy, either inside or outside the United States, or both. Successful candidates will also be capable of excellent teaching and mentoring at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The position is open to any subfield of political science, other social science disciplines, or related fields.

This search is conducted under the auspices of the Notre Dame Democracy Initiative, a significant investment from the Provost's office that will provide multiple faculty lines and substantial research support.

This appointment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check. Applicants will be asked to identify all felony convictions and/or pending felony charges. Felony convictions do not automatically bar an individual from employment. Each case will be examined separately to determine the appropriateness of employment in the particular position. Failure to be forthcoming or dishonesty with respect to felony disclosures can result in the disqualification of a candidate. Moreover, Notre Dame prohibits discrimination against veterans or disabled qualified individuals, and complies with 41 CFR 60-741.5(a) and 41 CFR 60-300.5(a).
