The current minimum salary range for this position is $66,737-$74,425. Salaries above the minimum may be offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions.

    Anticipated start: July 1, 2025

    Position duration: Two year appointment with a possibility of renewal, depending on funding.

    Position description

    AAPI Data, a research team based at the Asian American Research Center and part of the Institute for the Study of Societal Issues at UC Berkeley, seeks a postdoctoral fellow. The postdoctoral fellow will conduct research under the supervision of Dr. Karthick Ramakrishnan, Founder and Executive Director of AAPI Data. The postdoctoral fellow will contribute to AAPI Data's work in strengthening the relevance of social science and/or policy research to academic audiences at Berkeley and beyond. Non-academic audiences include community-based organizations, government agencies, and news outlets.

    Ideal candidates are scholars working on projects that highlight the needs and experiences of Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AA and NHPI) populations, particularly on the disparities, barriers, or challenges faced by low-income, immigrant, or otherwise underserved populations. Key research areas of focus for the AAPI Data team include public opinion, civic engagement, hate crimes/discrimination, language access, data disaggregation and data policy.
    The position also includes scope to pursue the postdoctoral scholar's own research interests within the AAPI Data research foci.

    Responsibilities include:
    -Assisting with the research design and data collection for quantitative and/or mixed methods research projects on the social, economic, and political experiences of AA and NHPI populations
    -Leading data analysis, writing, and data visualization efforts in partnership with Dr. Ramakrishnan and graduate student researchers.
    -Assisting with the preparation of publications, including manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals, policy reports, blog posts, and opinion essays
    -Supporting the work of AAPI Data in strengthening relationships and partnerships with community organizations and government agencies
    -Participating in weekly research team meetings
    -Mentoring graduate and undergraduate researchers, with the support and guidance of Dr. Ramakrishnan.

    Qualifications
    Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
    PhD or equivalent international degree or enrolled in a PhD program or equivalent international degree program at the time of application.

    Additional qualifications (required at time of start)
    -PhD or equivalent international degree
    -No more than (3) years of post PhD experience

    Preferred qualifications
    -Excellent writing and oral presentation skills.
    -Experience writing policy briefs or other similar publications intended for general or practitioner audiences.
    -Facility with quantitative data analysis using R software and/or qualitative data analysis using software such as NVivo.
    -Experience and enthusiasm for working in team-based settings and in collaboration with fellow scholars, community organizations, and government agencies.
