  • Part-Time Lecturer in Child Study and Human Development: Qualitative Research Methods

    Position description: The Eliot-Pearson Department of Child Study and Human Development at Tufts University is seeking a part-time Lecturer for Fall 2024 to teach CSHD 144. This course provides an interdisciplinary overview of qualitative/interpretive research methods commonly used by researchers and practitioners in the social sciences to pursue systematic inquiry and research-practice integration in applied fields and settings. The primary objective is for students to learn about selected traditions of interpretive research methods, within the framework of basic steps in conducting systematic research. Topics include strategies for formulating research questions, selecting samples, conducting fieldwork, interviews, participant & non-participant observations, strategies for systematic analysis of qualitative data & for integrative analysis (e.g., diagrams, charts). Within this framework, selected traditions of qualitative research are emphasized: Ethnographic Research, Grounded Theory, Narrative Analysis, and Thematic Analysis. Assignments provide opportunities to practice the use of qualitative research strategies. 


    This class is scheduled to be taught on Tuesdays & Thursdays from 1:30-2:45 pm


    Qualifications


    Expertise in qualitative research methods. Doctorate and college-level teaching experience preferred.
