Assistant/Associate Professor - Health Psychology

The Department of Psychology at the University of Massachusetts Lowell invites applications for a tenure-track assistant/associate professor position in the area of Health Psychology to begin in the academic year 2020-2021. We welcome applicants with expertise in health psychology who adopt any of the following applied approaches to health promotion and disease prevention. These include, but are not limited to: (a) community-based participatory research; (b) social-ecological frameworks; (c) biopsychosocial methods; and/or (d) interdisciplinary approaches. We are interested in candidates whose research focuses on key health areas in terms of specific health outcomes (e.g., obesity, cardiovascular disease, HIV/AIDS, substance abuse), stress and health mechanisms (e.g., social determinants, trauma, interpersonal relationships, psychoneuroimmunology), and/or community applications (e.g., community development, social change, health promotion), relevant to any stage of the lifespan.
Responsibilities involve maintaining an active program of research, including pursuit of external funding, teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses, supervising theses/dissertations, and engaging in departmental and university service.
The University of Massachusetts Lowell is a research university, and it offers an excellent salary and benefits package. The Department of Psychology is one of the largest academic units on campus, with an on-campus and online B.A, two master's programs (Community Social Psychology and Autism Studies), and doctoral program in Applied Psychology and Prevention Science. Psychology is one of 11 departments in the University’s College of Fine Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (FAHSS). The College has seen significant growth in recent years, including hiring over 75 new faculty, a 70% growth in funded research expenditures, and the addition of several new interdisciplinary graduate programs. The department has strong ties to the community of Lowell, a mid-sized city with a diverse population located 25 miles northwest of Boston and within two hours of mountains and beaches. • Candidates must have a PhD in psychology or a related field at the time of hire, and an established record of publication.
**Also required for applicants at the Associate Professor level, a history of effective teaching and student mentoring, conducting and publishing quality research, and extramural funding are required as well as evidence of continuing potential in each.
