Professor and Director, Australian Research Centre for Human Evolution

About Griffith University

Griffith University believes in, strives for and celebrates the remarkable. Known for its high impact research, outstanding student experience and commitment to social justice, the University is proud of their achievements, people and the passion for making a positive difference.

The opportunity

The Australian Research Centre for Human Evolution (ARCHE) is part of Griffith Sciences and the Environmental Futures Research Institute (EFRI) and is one of Australia’s leading research centres in Archaeology and Human Evolution. It is also the first centre specifically focused on gaining a deeper understanding of the scale of ancient human migrations and the origins of the people in our region.

ARCHE has achieved a high profile for research excellence and attracts strong external research funding.  Following the retirement of current Director, Professor Rainer Grun, there is an opportunity to lead this remarkable Research Centre.  The Director will contribute significantly to the University’s research profile by providing vision, leadership and management of ARCHE, and through identifying and building effective cross-university collaborations and strong external relationships.

This position requires a high calibre research leader with a proven track record of high impact research and funding, and strong contributions to teaching and mentoring. Candidates must demonstrate expertise in one or more of the key themes of ARCHE, which include genomics, Palaeoanthropology and geochronology applied to human evolution, and should have experience in fostering interdisciplinary research programs.  The position requires a leader with strong visionary, strategic, and collegial management skills, complemented by outstanding interpersonal and engagement capabilities.

The position is based at the Gold Coast or Nathan Campuses and an attractive salary package is negotiable.
