Visiting Instructor/Assistant Professor of Communication

Job Description

As a part of diverse community of faculty and staff who represent many faith systems and worldviews Marian University is seeking a Visiting Instructor or Assistant Professor of Communication to promote our Catholic Franciscan mission and identity by teaching undergraduate level courses in communication within the department with a primary focus on public speaking. This position reports to the Chair of the Media, Design, and Communication, as well as the Dean and Assistant Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. This is a one-year, non-tenure track appointment with the possibility of renewal.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Actively engage the Catholic Franciscan mission and identity of Marian University by modeling the Franciscan Sponsorship Values and honoring the legacy of the founding congregation through transformative education, unity in diversity, leadership through service, integrating faith and life, and institutional policies
  • Teaching Load: Marian utilizes a diversified work plan model. Most visiting faculty teach 4 courses per semester.
  • Demonstrate academic excellence, the potential for distinctive contributions to the holistic development of students, and actively participate in the life of the campus, and help advance the mission and values of the university.
  • Engage students in research, scholarship and other professional activities.
  • Participate in the life of the campus and university service, including participation in faculty governance and co-curricular programs.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and assessment within the department.
  • Actively participate in faculty governance within the department and across the university.

 

Required Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the mission of Marian University.
  • A Master’s degree (Ph.D. preferred) in Communication or related field with demonstrated ability to integrate across disciplines.
  • Demonstrated potential for excellence and innovation in student-centered instruction.
  • Demonstrated interest in science teaching pedagogy, curriculum and program development.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with colleagues of diverse backgrounds.
