Departmental Overview

The UC Berkeley Labor Center, at the Institute for Research on Labor and Employment (IRLE), is searching for a Senior Trainer.Founded in 1964, the UC Berkeley Labor Center works on the most pressing economic challenges affecting working families in California and across the country. The Labor Center provides timely, policy-relevant research on labor and employment issues for policymakers and stakeholders, and conducts training for a new and diverse generation of worker leaders and students.


  • In consultation with the Director of LeadershipDevelopment, plans and develops curriculum for in-person and remote learning via video conference, based on the strategic objectives of the Program and needs from key partners.
  • Trains a diverse group of labor and communityleaders in a culturally competent manner.
  • Builds partnerships with key stakeholders andassesses needs for training courses.
  • Assesses presentation/course results throughparticipant evaluations and recommends appropriate action.
  • In consultation with the Director of LeadershipDevelopment, develops, prepares and reconciles budget for training courses/programs.
  • Supports Director of Leadership Development byoverseeing outreach plans and recruitment of target audience.
  • Supervise Program Coordinators and contractedcourse facilitators, as needed.
  • Assists Director of Leadership Development withstrategic program development and implementation as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge in leading organizing campaigns inunion, worker and/ or community organizations.
  • Thorough knowledge of functional area and understandingof how work may impact other areas.
  • Thorough analytical skills to conduct analysis and developrecommendations, demonstrating organization and problem-solving skills.
  • Thorough and effective verbal, written and interpersonalcommunication skills and presentation skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of organization policies andprocedures.
  • Thorough knowledge of and skill in delivering programs.
  • Thorough knowledge of or ability to gain knowledge of current public educationalprograms and trends.
  • Thorough skills to conduct needs assessment anddevelopment of new presentations/courses to meet organizational needs.
  • Skill in using business software systems in the completionof work assignments; i.e., Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalentexperience/training.
  • Continuing education in related fields is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fluent in Spanish

Salary & Benefits

Salary is commensurate with experience. Hiring range is $70,000 - $85,000/annually. For information on the comprehensive benefits package offered by the University visit:
