As a national collegiate leader, UC Berkeley's University Health Services (UHS) provides comprehensive medical, mental health, insurance and health promotion services to all Berkeley students, and a variety of health programs for faculty and staff. Approximately 65,000 visits occur annually including Primary Care, Urgent Care, Occupational Health and Specialty Clinics. Reporting to the Director of CAPS (Counseling and Psychological Services) this position is for a Counseling Psychologist to work in the Graduate Assembly's (GA) satellite Wellness Center in Mulford Hall. The GA is UC Berkeley's graduate student government whose main mission is to improve the lives of graduate students. In addition to working with CAPS, and University Health Services, this position will work with graduate students to help serve the mental health needs of graduate students by providing one one one counseling, group counseling, etc. for graduate students from a diverse population. This position will work collaboratively with the Senior Psychologist who oversees the GA Wellness Center.
- Provides assessment, counseling and crisis intervention for graduate students on a broad range of behavioral, psychological and developmental concerns that may impact effective academic and personal functioning.
- Provides the highest quality care for graduate students, including treatment recommendations, services and referrals.
- Consults with senior clinicians on complex cases or on problems outside their area of expertise.
- Documents and monitors progress of individual cases.
- Serves as a resource for other professional staff and training staff.
- Presents psycho-educational workshops for graduate students and academic departments.
- Provides outreach consultation to faculty and staff regarding student concerns.
- Experience working with graduate student populations and in university counseling.
- Experience providing time-limited individual counseling, group counseling, evaluation, and assessment and crisis intervention services to a diverse student population.
- Prior counseling experience in working with multicultural & diverse graduate student populations.
- Prior experience working with equity & inclusion issues.
- Knowledge and experience with student development and career counseling/ assessment.
- Ability to work with high risk populations including severe and complex mental health concerns
- Thorough knowledge of applicable laws, standards and ethics of professional conduct.
- Thorough knowledge of diagnostic/psychological testing methodologies.
- Highly effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, including public speaking and workshop delivery.
- Experience and skills in conducting complex diagnosis, problem-solving and critical- thinking.
- Ability to work in a highly collaborative manner with diverse clients, members of the medical staff and faculty.
- Ability to conduct complex analysis and develop and present recommendations and course of treatment.
- Knowledge of electronic/medical records systems.
- Doctorate in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA-accredited program.
- Current, valid license in California as a psychologist, or if licensed in another state, would need to be licensed within 6 months of residence in California.
