THE ELIOT-PEARSON DEPARTMENT OF CHILD STUDY AND HUMAN DEVELOPMENT AT TUFTS UNIVERSITY invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Applied Developmental Science to begin September 1, 2023.

We seek a colleague whose work highlights the optimization of human potential as the foundation for thriving and active, positive community engagement among children, youth, and families. Candidates must share Eliot-Pearson’s holistic, strengths-based perspective and a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice (DEIJ). The department is well-known for preparing undergraduate and graduate students for careers working in clinical, educational, and policy-oriented settings with children, youth, and families in diverse and interconnected communities and contexts. See http://ase.tufts.edu/epcshd/ for more information about the department, its programs, and research centers.

We invite applicants whose scholarship represents the integration of research and practice, including the application of research to prevention programs, governmental and organizational policies, and community and civic engagement. Areas of interest may include (but are not limited to): child/youth/family mental and physical health and well-being; social disparities in well-being and the systemic issues serving as barriers (e.g., lack of access to resources) or supports to thriving; using digital tools and literacies to enhance well-being of children and adolescents; the arts (e.g., music, dance, drama) and optimization of human potential; and using a community-based participatory research lens for studies in any of these or other relevant areas. We are interested in colleagues who embrace a multidisciplinary approach and a systems orientation, recognizing the interconnections of different levels of the human ecology, including a global focus.

Qualifications

Candidates must possess a doctorate in child/human development, psychology, family studies, education, or a related field.  Applicants’ research and teaching interests should fit within a wide variety of areas as described above. Candidates must demonstrate strong evidence of research productivity and potential, including publications and the potential for externally funded research as well as evidence of successful teaching and applied experience. We are especially interested in scholars with demonstrated experience in the application of advanced developmental methods and statistics relevant to developmental science; for example, analyses of intensive longitudinal data, community based participatory research designs, mixed methods approaches, methods of causal inference, and integrative, empowering, and equitable approaches to measurement and program evaluation. Experience working on interdisciplinary projects, program evaluation, and the application of advanced developmental methods and statistics in the integration of research and practice is highly desired. The successful applicant will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, comprising both core courses in the curriculum and more specialized courses in areas such as: socioeconomic, racial, and ethnic disparities in child and family well-being; social and government policies and programs; using digital tools or literacies or the arts to support well-being; and/or research designs and advanced statistical methods.
