The Department of Psychology at Morgan State University, housed within the College of Liberal Arts, invites applications for two 9.5-month tenure-track positions at the rank of Assistant Professor.
Candidates for both positions should demonstrate excellence in teaching, scholarly research and publications, and mentoring students. The faculty will serve as a member of the newly formed Center for Data Analytics and Sports Gaming Research (CDASGR) with 50% responsibilities to the Center and 50% to the Department. Along with other faculty responsibilities, the faculty is expected to teach 2 courses per semester during the initial two years and based on productivity, continue with that teaching load. Faculty will be expected to conduct research leading to publication in journals and contribute to the Center’s mission in terms of informing and building capacity in Data Analytics. The Center aims to study and support research into emerging technological, socio-behavioral, and attitudes towards eSports, sports wagering, problem gambling and business development trends to inform eSports and gaming public policy and regulation.
Cognitive Psychology: Candidates must have a PhD in Cognitive Psychology or a closely related discipline by August 2023, along with a strong program of research and training in decision making, modeling cognitive processes, and examining psychosocial predictors of individual and group behaviors while utilizing large data sets for analysis. Clinical Health or Health Psychology: Candidates must have a PhD in Health Psychology, Clinical Health Psychology, or a closely related discipline by August 2023, along with a strong program of research and training in the translational science of addiction. Preference will be given to candidates who meet the minimum qualifications with post-doctoral experiences, a record of grantsmanship with interests in research focused on physical and mental health issues related to sports gaming and eSports using large data sets for analysis. The emphasis should be on identifying individuals vulnerable to developing mental and physical health problems when engaging in sports gaming and eSports. This includes an understanding of the populations at greatest risk of addiction and behaviors underlying that risk which is needed to develop, test and implement efficacious new interventions for prevention and treatment.
