Associate/Full Professor, Developmental Psychology, Department of Applied Psychology

New York University’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development Department of Applied Psychology invites applications for a tenured faculty position at the Associate or Professor level, beginning September 1, 2020. The NYU Steinhardt Department of Applied Psychology Program in Developmental Psychology is known for scholarly excellence and high caliber academic offerings, including a Ph.D. program that has several research foci in developmental science and applied human development. We are committed to substantially increasing the proportion of our faculty from historically underrepresented groups as we strive to create the most intellectually diverse, inclusive, and equitable institution that we can, and especially encourage candidates from historically underrepresented groups to apply.

Position Description: We seek candidates who through their scholarly activities contribute to the Developmental Psychology Program and the Department of Applied Psychology. With a strong developmental science background, the successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in social and/or emotional development in infancy, childhood, or adolescence, particularly as situated in social and cultural contexts. We especially welcome applicants who study diverse populations, populations outside the United States, or racial, cultural, and socioeconomic influences on social and/or emotional development. The applicant will join a department with programs in developmental psychology, counseling, and psychology and social interventions.

Responsibilities: The applicant is expected to engage in strong programmatic research; disseminate cutting-edge science and pursue and access grant funding; teach and advise undergraduate and graduate students; contribute to the teaching and scholarly missions of the Department of Applied Psychology and Steinhardt; and provide service to the Department, School and University.

Qualifications: In addition to a demonstrated commitment to scholarship and teaching, applicants must have a PhD in Developmental Psychology or related field with specialization in developmental processes. The successful candidate will demonstrate evidence of strong scholarly productivity, including an active agenda of research and publication, the ability to secure and maintain external funding to support their research program, and the ability to meaningfully contribute to undergraduate and graduate training programs in developmental science, education, and learning in diverse contexts.

Applications: Candidates should apply online via Interfolio by submitting a letter of application, curriculum vita, three representative scholarly publications, research statement, diversity statement (describing how you address diversity, equity, and inclusion in the scope of your teaching, mentoring, and broader work), and the names and addresses of three individuals from whom letters of recommendations could be solicited.

Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the search is complete. For best consideration, materials should be received no later than November 1, 2019.
