Human Development and Family Sciences

Tenure-Track, Assistant Professor, with a specialization in social determinants of health, aging and biopsychosocial influences.

The Department of Human Development and Family Sciences at the University of Delaware seeks an experienced researcher with strong quantitative skills and a focus on social determinants of health, aging, and biopsychosocial influences. We are particularly interested in applicants with a commitment to work in an interdisciplinary academic environment and those with strong scholarly records related to health and well-being, as well as aging and the lifespan, along with a social justice perspective on issues of race, poverty and inclusion. The faculty member will teach undergraduate and graduate courses related to one or more of these areas, in addition to research methods, and applied research. Applicants will be considered from varied academic backgrounds and disciplines; however, candidates will be expected to demonstrate experience and lines of inquiry into development through combined biopsychosocial influences. Successful grant writing, both state and federal, is preferred. Position begins September 1, 2020.

The Department of Human Development and Family Sciences is an interdisciplinary department that focuses on the study of critical social issues affecting individuals, families, and communities, along with poverty and at-risk families, and teacher education and professional development in early childhood (www.hdfs.udel.edu). The College of Education and Human Development is dedicated to finding answers to the problems that confront our communities and schools, and to develop solutions to the challenges faced by children, youth and families around the world and across the lifespan. The College includes the Department of Human Development and Family Sciences, the School of Education, the Delaware Institute for Excellence in Early Childhood, Center for Research in Education and Social Policy, the National Leadership Consortium on Developmental Disabilities, the Center for Disabilities Studies, and several other research centers (www.cehd.udel.edu).

Qualifications
A Ph.D. in human development, family sciences, gerontology, social work, sociology, psychology, prevention science, education, or a related field with extensive training in quantitative methods is required. Applicants must have experience with designing and/or carrying out large-scale studies, demonstrated promise in attracting external funding, and experience working as a member of an interdisciplinary, collaborative team. Candidates with an interest and/or experience in research focusing on human services for aging adults and their families, poverty, at-risk populations, and/or nonprofit programming/evaluations are especially encouraged to apply. Teaching experience at the university level is required.
