American University of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates invites applications for a one-semester visiting faculty position in psychology starting January 2020. As an American-accredited institution in the liberal arts tradition, we seek candidates with a passion for both teaching and research in any area of specialization. The successful candidate will teach Introduction to Psychology and Advanced Research Methods.
Successful candidates will have a PhD in psychology or a closely-related field, professional experience reflecting a commitment to teaching and strong communication skills. As a university formed on the American model with English as the language of instruction, we give priority to candidates who have experience in American models of higher education. Administrative experience is a plus.
AUS is licensed and its programs are accredited by the Commission for Academic Accreditation of the Ministry of Education’s Higher Education Affairs Division in the United Arab Emirates. With two dedicated lab spaces, specialized software and hardware (such as E-Prime and MediaLab/DirectRT), a research participation pool, and support services such as Sona Systems, our current faculty regularly publish in peer reviewed journals and have won both internal and external competitive grants for their research, often integrating AUS undergraduates into their lab activities. Our cultural context presents the opportunity to introduce psychological science to thousands of young adults who might otherwise find few such chances.
