Recently embarking on a historic $2.1 billion comprehensive campaign, the University of Kentucky set an ambitious path to be a destination for students, scholars, and healthcare providers to forge new discoveries and arrive at world-class outcomes. University of Kentucky Libraries is vital to fulfilling the goals of enhancing and expanding the university’s research enterprise, and we are looking for a Cataloging and Metadata Librarian to join our team to help support the creation, organization, and maintenance of metadata to facilitate discovery and access to resources in various formats and disciplines. Early career librarians are strongly encouraged to apply.
Reporting to the Head of the Cataloging and Metadata Unit, the librarian will use traditional cataloging standards as well as existing and emerging metadata schemas and techniques, such as linked data. Additionally, the librarian will provide original, adaptive, and complex cataloging of materials in multiple formats and languages; adhere to local and national standards to develop comprehensive bibliographic descriptions; perform subject analysis; and assign classification. In support of the University of Kentucky’s participation in the National Authority Cooperative (NACO), the librarian will provide background work for authorizing forms of names for contribution to the national name authority file. Recognizing that technology and standards development is continual, we provide strong support for ongoing learning and professional development.
The librarian will serve as the primary cataloger for the Medical Center Library, and medicine-related materials housed outside the Medical Center Library. Additional format and/or discipline responsibilities will be assigned depending on subject or language expertise, needs within the department, and strategic initiatives and goals.
Position is a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track position.
