Overview
The School of Family and Consumer Sciences at Northern Illinois University seeks applications for an anticipated 9-month, clinical faculty position at the clinical assistant professor level in Human Development and Family Sciences, to begin as soon as Febuary 2023.
The position is housed in the area of Human Development and Family Sciences in the School of Family and Consumer Sciences. The School has 14 full-time faculty members and three supportive professional staff and offers two undergraduate degrees and one Master’s degrees (https://www.chhs.niu.edu/facs/index.shtml) with specializations in Marriage and Family Therapy and Leadership in Aging Studies. The School also houses a Couple and Family Therapy Clinic and a Child Development and Family Center. Northern Illinois University is a Doctoral/Research extensive university with a diverse student body of over 17,000, located 65 miles west of Chicago.
Position Summary
Assistant Clinical Professor to support instructional needs of undergraduate and graduate programs in Human Development and Family Sciences.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in human development, family social services, marriage and family therapy, and family relations that promote family wellbeing through prevention and intervention in the context of family and human development across the life span.
- Maintain workload of four courses of instruction per semester.
- Participate as a faculty member in in school, college, and university committee work including curriculum, program development and assessment, and advocate for Human Development and Family Sciences-related professions regionally, nationally, and internationally.
- Leadership of core student extracurricular organizations.
- Support marketing of major to community colleges and high school student populations.
- Positively contribute to the needs of the diverse student body of NIU.
- Opportunities for participation in applied research and service on graduate thesis committees.
Minimum Required Qualifications
- An earned doctorate by the time of appointment in the area of human development and family sciences or closely related field. Applicants who have not completed their doctoral program must include documentation indicating the likelihood of completion by August 2023.
- Demonstrated commitment for cross-disciplinary collaboration and program development.
