Program Manager – Eliot-Pearson Department of Child Study and Human Development – (20001331)

In an effort to grow the offering of innovative graduate programs from Tufts University and increase international visibility, The Early Childhood Technology (ECT) Graduate Certificate Program in the Eliot-Pearson Dept. of Child Study & Human Development at Tufts University is looking to hire an Program Manager for the ECT program who can serve both a program development role and academic role. The ECT Program, directed by Prof. Marina Umaschi Bers, is a blended-learning (online and in-person) program that introduces students to best practices teaching with technology in early childhood in a developmentally appropriate way that focuses on playful learning. Additionally, this program develops students’ pedagogical approaches and their understanding of student learning through integrated curricula that includes the arts and literacy as well as STEM. 1) A development role: growing and promoting the ECT program and other programs offered by the Graduate School both nationally and internationally. This includes efforts to engage in potential growth partnerships in China and Latin America as well as interacting with prospective students, writing grants, and establishing new opportunities to support and grow the programs. In addition, engaging in marketing efforts including online advertising, advertising in conferences, and growing social media presence.2) An academic role, serving as academic advisor to all of the ECT students, developing and teaching content for online classes and one in-person class at Tufts in the summer (a one-week in-person residency in July), coordinating and hosting guest speakers and workshops, overseeing hiring and supervision of online instructors if needed, serving as point person for students, hosting Virtual Open Houses for prospective students and reviewing applications. The Program Manager will serve as liaison with the Eliot-Pearson Children’s School to plan the one-week summer residency and the DevTech research group regarding best practices and current research in the field.


Basic Requirements:
Knowledge and experience as typically acquired by Master’s degree in related discipline and 5+ years of program or project management experience.
The candidate should be comfortable using online platforms for communication and teaching. The candidate should have experience working with educational technologies in early childhood, especially coding and robotics. They should have direct experience working with young children and educators and developing technology and STEM/STEAM curriculum.
It is expected that the candidate will travel to China, Latin America or other places a few times a year to grow the international reputation of the program and work with partners to explore and establish off-shore delivery models. Thus, comfort with travelling and interest in international initiatives is a must.
The candidate needs to be able to work well on a team, have excellent communication skills both face-to-face and online, be very detailed oriented, well-organized, and have excellent writing skills. They should be capable of taking initiative and expanding and growing the ECT program and other programs at the Graduate School.
Preferred Qualifications:
Doctoral degree in Child Development, Education, Educational Technology, or a related field preferred and a minimum of 1-3 years of experience working in higher education (preferably, with experience teaching online), as well as experience in development and growth efforts involving educational programs.
Experience training teachers, especially in culturally ad internationally diverse settings, is preferred. It is preferred, but not required, that the candidate have experience with KIBO robotics, the ScratchJr programming language, and familiarity with makerspaces in early childhood.
It is a plus if the candidate has experience using Canvas and WebEx, as well as experience developing marketing materials.
