Primary Purpose of Position
The Research Assistant Professor in Child Development and Family Studies will be responsible for establishing and maintaining a nationally recognized, externally funded research agenda related to community and population-based approaches to the critical issues facing the health of children, individuals, families and communities and the subsequent impact on marginalized and limited-resource communities. Specifically, the Research Assistant Professor will have a primary focus on wellness as well as health promotion and/or disparities and the social, cultural, behavioral, environmental, and economic determinants that contribute to improving the overall well-being of individuals from diverse or marginalized communities. The person in this position will work collaboratively with faculty in diverse disciplines to address health and wellness issues in marginalized communities, especially communities of color; to advise graduate students; and, to participate in other academic functions of the department, college and university. This position has potential for a 25% release in Cooperative Extension or Teaching.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit
North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University’s College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences (CAES) has a rich history of innovation and application of cutting-edge technology. From our pioneering Laboratory Animal Science and Landscape Architecture programs to our award-winning Cooperative Extension and Agricultural Research programs, our faculty and staff serve today’s needs while keeping an eye on the future. With programs and expertise in such areas as biotechnology, agricultural and biosystems engineering, natural resources management, waste management, and food microbiology, the A&T College of Agriculture grows concurrently with the demand for qualified graduates. Our four academic departments are the Department of Agribusiness, Applied Economics and Agriscience Education; the Department of Animal Sciences; the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences; and the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Design. Within these departments, students will find a myriad of opportunities for classroom learning, research and field work.
Through our Agricultural Research Program and our Cooperative Extension Program, we are able to research issues of importance to North Carolina and provide research-based outreach training to citizens across the state and around the world.

Minimum Requirements
- PhD from an accredited university in child and family studies, human development, or a closely related field
- Evidence of scholarly productivity and potential in the areas of child, family and community health and well-being.
- Previous experience either in research or practice focused on children and families from limited resource-based communities, especially communities of color
- Evidence of and demonstrated commitment to high-quality research in the area of child and family studies.

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
- Evidence of potential for obtaining independent external research funding
- Experience with community outreach including Cooperative Extension
- Experience with graduate student advising and mentoring
- Strong technology skills related to research design and methodology; and
- Ability to build community partnerships and interact and gain support from constituencies outside the university such as business and industry, state and federal agencies and non-profit and private foundations.
