The Asian School of the Environment (ASE) at Nanyang Technological University Singapore (NTU) is an interdisciplinary school that will be a world leader in environmental research focused on Asian environmental challenges. The ASE integrates Earth and environmental sciences to build an understanding of our planet and environment and to address key issues of environmental sustainability and its impact on society. Professor Simon Redfern’s laboratory at ASE is seeking a Research Assistant (RA) to support a project investigating the impact of Voluntary Carbon Markets (VCMs) on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) performance in Southeast Asia.

 

Key Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will help collect and manage datasets, conduct interviews, and contribute to analysis and reporting. The role includes synthesising both qualitative and quantitative data, with a focus on Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW) and other carbon removal approaches relevant to the ASEAN context. The RA will be based at NTU and work closely with a multidisciplinary team across science, economics, and policy.

 

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies, Geography, Economics, Public Policy, Sustainability Science, or a related social science or interdisciplinary field

  • Basic understanding of the scientific principles relevant to the research activities

  • Familiarity with ESG frameworks, carbon markets, or climate policy in Southeast Asia is an advantage

  • Experience working with both quantitative and qualitative data; prior exposure to datasets from international or government platforms is a plus

  • Strong attention to detail and adherence to procedures

  • Effective communication and report writing skills

  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills
