Position Overview
The Office of Academic Programs and Experiential Learning (APEL), a unit within the Division of Academic Success, supports the intellectual engagement and pursuit of learning by KU students throughout their academic career, from orientation to graduation and beyond. APEL offers a variety of courses, resources, and programs to help students gain the skills, experience, knowledge, and connections needed to prepare them for a meaningful career after graduation.
Part- to full-time lecturer and/or online lecturer positions. Lecturers are non-tenure-track members of the faculty. Positions vary and are dependent upon the need, if any, each semester for development and/or instruction of course(s). Primary role is instruction with no obligations to perform research or service. The appointment dates will vary based on the type of lecturer appointment and the timeframe for the preparation and instruction of the online course(s).
Application materials will be reviewed and placed in a pool for consideration for developing and/or teaching undergraduate courses consistent with instructional needs.

Lecturer 100%
This position will instruct one or two sections of LA&S 172: Exploring Health Professions in the fall with option to renew in the spring semester. LA&S 172 is a 3-credit hour course designed to help students explore the variety of career pathways in the field of health care. Students participate in experiential learning activities to confirm their interest in the health care professions. Class-time will includes discussing the necessary attributes for working in the health professions, exploring career pathways and resources, meeting health care providers and professionals, and discussing contemporary issues in health care. This course stresses the value of self-reflection, career development, exploration, and skill building through active learning and discussion.
- Teach the assigned curriculum
- Lead class discussions on topics related to careers in health care, career development, personal, professional, and academic requirements health care workers, and ethics and contemporary issues in health care,
- Evaluate, grade, and provide substantive feedback on assignments, essays, resumes, and personal statements in a timely manner
- Consult with students outside of regular classroom hours during regularly scheduled office hours or upon request
- Correspond regularly with students thou
Required Qualifications
1. Master’s degree in biology, psychology, chemistry, or related pre-health field
2. Excellent communication skills as demonstrated by application materials.
3. At least one semester teaching experience in the classroom, or an online course
4. Must be available to meet on campus with faculty and students as needed and teach in-person when the class if scheduled
5. Expertise on topic being taught from educational or employment experience.

Experience in the health care field
