Young and research intensive, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore) is ranked among the world’s top universities.
NTU Singapore has launched the “Care, Serve, and Learn” (CSL) initiative as a compulsory, credit-bearing course series for all undergraduates admitted from Academic Year 2025 onwards. Integrated into the Interdisciplinary Collaborative Core (ICC) curriculum, CSL bridges academic learning with meaningful community service, aiming to cultivate socially responsible, empathetic, and civically engaged graduates. Through structured training, hands-on service with partner organizations, individual and team-based reflective learning, students develop vital skills such as active listening, advocacy, and project management. The initiative builds on NTU’s strong culture of volunteerism and reflects a broader educational vision that blends intellectual growth with real-world impact. The new initiative will be managed by the CSL office.
Responsibilities
The hired Specialist/Senior Specialist will have the following responsibilities:
- Teaching and Facilitation: Conduct teaching and facilitation lessons for students through both face-to-face and virtual delivery, ensuring effective engagement and learning.
- Course Planning and Development: Develop instructional plans (course outlines/syllabi) in the form of outcome-based teaching and learning (OBTL) that meet university standards and service partners’ program needs, while continuously designing, refining, and improving teaching plans, activities, assignments, and rubrics to enhance student learning.
- Student Engagement: Inspire students on societal impact by fostering and ensuring high levels of student participation and engagement during teaching and service delivery.
- Course Administration and Coordination: Manage administrative tasks, including course evaluation, maintaining and approving attendance records, updating online course materials, providing academic counselling, and liaising with service partner supervisors to support student progress. When called upon to serve as a Lead Instructor, the responsibilities include leading the course and overseeing all course level administrative and policy matters to ensure the smooth running of the course. Lead Instructors are also expected to work closely and collaboratively with other instructors, service partner agencies, and relevant stakeholders.
- Assessment and Feedback: Conduct assessments, grade student reflection journals and midterm reports, provide timely feedback, and perform mark entry. Address student queries on both academic and non-academic matters.
- Resource Development: Create and maintain course materials and learning resources to support and enhance student learning experiences.
- Progress Monitoring and Reporting: Provide regular updates on course performance and check-ins with students and their service supervisors at service sites for monitoring, reporting and strategic planning purposes.
- Team Collaboration: To maintain a positive and supportive environment for all internal and external stakeholders.
- Professional Conduct: Uphold values of integrity, care, respect, impact, service and partnership in all activities undertaken for, or on behalf of, NTU.
- Other Duties: Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain, convey and influence students, service partners, and relevant stakeholders.
- Skilled in active and empathetic listening to understand the perspectives and concerns of students, service partners, and relevant stakeholders.
- Have the capacity to encourage students to think deeply and critically about community issues and to guide them through problem-solving and holistic understanding.
- Ability to work with students as partners in the learning process and to encourage peer collaboration and sustained volunteerism.
- Skilled in leading and guiding students’ thinking, questioning, discussion, and reflection on community issues, needs, assistance, and resolution.
- Ability to design and manage class schedules, pre-service preparation and training, midterm review exercise, post-service reflection and sharing, and to keep track of student progress and providing timely feedback.
- Familiarity with learning management systems, video platforms, and collaboration tools.
- Committed to continuous improvement in teaching practices.
Requirements
Candidates with the following qualifications are encouraged to apply:
- Masters or Bachelor in Social Work or related fields.
- Teaching and mentoring experience. Experience with team teaching is preferred.
- Interest and/or proficiency in technology-enhanced learning (e.g., developing online learning activities and assessments, creating lectures to be streamed online).
- Candidates with experience working in the domain of People with Diverse Abilities is an advantage.
- Passionate about youth development and well informed on Singapore societal issues, support system and agencies.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team with diverse and complementary skills.
- Experience with teaching both STEM and non-STEM students is an advantage.
- A demonstrated potential for scholarship is an advantage.
- This position is best suited for those with prior relevant experience.
Emoluments
Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. The University offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package.
