The United Arab Emirates University invites applications for a faculty position as assistant/associate professor in sociology. Qualified candidates will be considered at a rank commensurate with academic accomplishments. Candidates are expected to specialize in quantitative and qualitative research methodology with strong focus (preferably) in one of the following research areas: population studies, social policy research, economic sociology, sociology of consumption, quality of life studies or sociology of medicine. Candidates are expected to have a strong commitment to teaching excellence and student advising at the undergraduate and graduate levels, a clear research agenda and strong research capability that will enable the candidate to develop and successfully complete an internally and/or externally funded research grants in his/her area of expertise, publish his/her research findings in top-ranked refereed journals, and actively engage in promoting the growth of the UAE University. The application package should include a cover letter, a detailed resume, a brief description of current/future research activities, teaching philosophy, and teaching experience. Applicants must have a doctorate degree in one of the fields: sociology, applied sociology, population studies, economic sociology, social psychology or social statistics. The ability to teach undergraduate courses is a must. Industrial and professional experience is a plus.
A Ph.D. in the fields of Sociology from an accredited and reputable university granted through a full-time doctoral study. Strong and continuous record of publishing research in Scopus-indexed journals and strong citation index in Scopus. Experience in teaching a variety of graduate and undergraduate courses and supervising graduate students’ research and theses. Strong theoretical knowledge and applied skills in teaching and research in the field and excellent command of writing, reading and speaking in the English language. Expertise in program development, curriculum design and development with high-quality service record on department, college, university and community.
