Simmons University School of Social Work (SSW) is now accepting applications for an Associate Professor of Practice (non-tenure track) position. This role has primary teaching responsibilities in the on ground Bachelor of Social Work program. This position, which is Boston-based, will start on July 1, 2022, subject to the selected candidate's availability.

Simmons University is a small, highly collegial and dynamic university located in the heart of Boston's world-renowned Longwood Medical Area. Simmons is comprised of an undergraduate liberal arts education program for women and those who identify as women plus professional graduate schools with masters and doctoral programs for all genders, presenting unique and rich opportunities for interdisciplinary research and collaboration. The SSW is part of the College of Social Sciences, Policy, and Practice and offers degrees at the Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral levels (BSW, MSW, DSW, PhD).

This is a full-time, ten-month academic appointment. The successful applicant will have an MSW from a CSWE-accredited program and a PhD in social work or a closely related field. We seek candidates who have clinical experience and ideal candidates will also provide evidence of experience working effectively around issues of social justice, diversity, racial equity, and inclusion, with demonstrated capacity to meet the needs of underrepresented students and other marginalized groups. This position requires the candidate to be located on the Simmons campus in Boston. Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching in accredited social work programs. Candidates will have responsibilities for teaching and service within the SSW, the College, and the University at large.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Assume responsibility for classroom teaching in the BSW program. Teaching assignments will include practice courses, introductory social work courses, policy courses, electives, and collaborative teaching opportunities such as developing Learning Communities for students
  • Use practice experience to inform teaching
  • Participate in curricular development activities with BSW faculty
  • Participate in program and college committees and projects as elected or appointed
  • Other projects as assigned


Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Social Work with a minimum of 5 years post MSW clinical practice experience
  • PhD in social work or related field
  • Currently licensed as an LICSW (or equivalent)
  • Record of teaching excellence in undergraduate or graduate education
  • Experience working with collaborative teams
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google docs and a solid understanding for adapting technology in an educational context; willingness to learn new tools and software is desired.
