The Department of Psychology, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Copenhagen (Denmark), plans to expand faculty staff by offering one or more positions as Associate Professors in Interdisciplinary Health Psychology, Work Psychology, and Consciousness Studies. The department prefers applications within the areas mentioned, but also welcome application within all fields of psychology. The position(s) will be available from 1 August 2020 or as soon as possible hereafter.
The hired candidate(s) will join a group of faculty members in Clinical and Health Psychology and will be part of and contribute to this research area at the Department. Exceptional candidates in research and teaching with an international network and a strong potential for collaborations at the Department and University levels are encouraged to apply.
The Department of Psychology covers a broad range of disciplines including Clinical and Health Psychology, Cognitive and Neuropsychology, Developmental Psychology, Educational Psychology, Personality Psychology, Psychology of the Humanities, Social Psychology, and Work- and Organizational psychology. The department has excellent facilities for various research approaches. Our staff comprises about 35 faculty, 10 postdocs and 50 PhD students. About 240 students graduate in the five-year Master’s program in psychology per year. Next to psychology, the Faculty of Social Sciences includes the Departments of Anthropology, Economics, Political Science and Sociology, as well as several active research centers that bring together researchers across disciplines.
General duties attached to the position(s) as Associate Professor are:
Theoretical and empirical research within health psychology
Teaching, supervision, and examination of undergraduate and post-graduate students
Administrative tasks related to the positions
Attracting funding for applied and basic research within the fields of health and work psychology
Promoting a large societal impact of research-based health psychology in Denmark
Knowledge sharing with the rest of the society
Appointment as associate professor requires research and teaching qualifications at the level that can be achieved by satisfactorily completing a period of employment at the level of assistant professor or equivalent. Candidates must have a PhD in Psychology or equivalent academic qualifications and:
The candidate has an academic standing showing internationally competitive research within health psychology / mental health research / consciousness-related research, and have internationally recognized high potential to make a future impact.
The candidate has documented strong experience with applied research within health psychology, such as theoretical development of mental health promotion initiatives, research in implemented health psychological programs, or experience with contributing to, for example, public mental health policies.
The candidate has also demonstrated strong experience with interdisciplinary psychological research of relevance to consciousness studies and basic research in health psychology, such as experience with experimental consciousness studies, studies of contemplative traditions, meditation research, fundamental neuroscience research, or test development / validation.
The candidate has potential to contribute to theoretical and applied innovation within health psychology by relating mental health research with studies of relevance to understanding fundamental aspects of human consciousness. For example, the candidate may demonstrate experience with studies of meditation, mindfulness, yoga, hypnosis, or other approaches to studying mental health and altered states of consciousness. A wide knowledge of critical issues in mental health promotion applying contemplative methods is necessary.
The candidate has shown leadership and potential to establish and head an interdisciplinary research-based health psychological clinic and experimental laboratory in these fields. While the clinic and laboratory are not yet established, emphasis is put on the applicant’s vision and plan of how to accomplish this. A strong clinical research unit is aimed for.
The candidate has a commitment to working as part of a team and assisting in the smooth running of the department and its teaching programs
The candidate has strong interpersonal and networking skills that enable the development of internal networks
An engagement in knowledge exchange and health psychological policy-making in Denmark is an advantage for the associate professor position. We encourage proactive engagement with public health parties, government, business and community partners to enhance the impact of the research and education and improve the employability of our students. Conditions of employment
Terms of employment will be in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC). The annual salary as Associate Professor is currently DDK 481,751. In addition to the salary paid directly to you, the University will also pay a monthly contribution to the pension fund corresponding to 17.1 % of your salary.
