The Department of Psychology in Colorado State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Health Disparities to begin August 2023. The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate excellence in both teaching and research. Priority will be given to candidates with research expertise in an area related to health disparities (health equity, race or ethnicity, sex or gender, education or income, disability, age, geographic location (e.g., rural or urban), or sexual orientation). Areas of research interest may include historical and current unequal distribution of social, political, economic, and environmental resources; health outcomes; personal, biologic/genetic factors, and other related areas. Although the area of specific research interest within health disparities is open, successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain a highly productive research program that can generate external funding. In addition, they must provide evidence of commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and be able to teach new and existing classes within the Department of Psychology (e.g., Health Psychology, Research Methods, Health Disparities). The successful candidate will be expected to mentor and train graduate students in one of the Department’s five doctoral programs: (1) Applied Social and Health Psychology, (2) Cognitive Neuroscience, (3) Cognitive Psychology, (4) Counseling Psychology, and (5) Industrial and Organizational Psychology.
Required qualifications: The successful candidate must have a Ph.D., or anticipated Ph.D. completion by 07/30/2023 in Psychology or a related discipline (for related disciplines, evidence must be provided of the candidate’s ability to teach courses in psychology). Successful candidates must also have an active research program related to health disparities (i.e., a clear and consistent record of publication in health disparities), and evidence of commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Preferred qualifications:
- Commitment to and the capability of obtaining external research funding
- Consistent with CSU and Department values, commitment to diversity, inclusion, and social justice
- Evidence of interdisciplinary research / interest and ability to contribute to collaborations with colleagues within and outside of the Psychology Department and the College of Natural Sciences (e.g., the Colorado School of Public Health, the College of Health and Human Sciences, the One Health Institute, the Tri-Ethnic Center for Prevention Research, the Center for Healthy Aging, the Prevention Research Center, The Occupational Health Psychology training program)
- Experience in undergraduate and/or graduate instruction and mentoring
- Post-doctoral experience
- Research focus that complements one or more areas of interest to the Department (e.g. addictive behaviors, environmental psychology, gender and culture, medically underserved populations, occupational health, prevention science, relationships and family, aging).
