International and Area Studies/International Social Sciences Program
The Cognitive Science Program at the University of California, Berkeley invites applicants for a pool of qualified temporary instructors to teach Cognitive Science 1 (Introduction to Cognitive Science), upper division courses on Cognitive Psychology, Computational Modeling, Cognitive Linguistics, Cognitive Neuroscience, and cognition-related social sciences, and possibly other undergraduate courses in the Cognitive Science Program should an opening arise. Screening of applicants is ongoing and will continue as needed. The number of positions varies from semester to semester, depending on the needs of the program. Positions may range from 33% to 100% time per term (i.e. teaching load of 1-3 courses during the Summer, Fall, or Spring term).
This pool will remain open until October 15, 2019 to accommodate upcoming course needs and new applicants. Applications for fall semester appointments are usually reviewed in April, spring semester appointments in October, and summer appointments in March. The job includes preparing and delivering lectures, holding office hours, coordinating and meeting with GSIs (Graduate Student Instructors), and performing other duties as needed.
Salary is commensurate with experience; the range starts at $54,738, minimum full-time annual salary base, commensurate with qualification and experience.
Basic qualifications: (at the time of application): Advancement to candidacy in a PhD (or equivalent international degree) program.
Additional qualifications: (by position start date): A PhD (or equivalent international degree).
Preferred qualifications: A commitment to, and experience with, undergraduate teaching, preferably in the areas of Cognitive Science, Linguistics, Computer Science, Philosophy, Psychology or Neuroscience. Must demonstrate ability to teach effectively in a dynamic learning environment. Must demonstrate experience with, and deep knowledge of, interdisciplinary inquiry and research as connected to the study of the mind. Ability to communicate effectively and contribute to diversity and equal opportunity.
