RIT Dubai is currently seeking exceptional candidates with interdisciplinary interests in a wide range of topics in the foundations and applications of Smart Cities. RIT Dubai’s Master in Professional Studies: City Sciences degree is a unique program that looks at three broad aspects of Smart Cities – Socioeconomic, Technology and Sustainability. The position, based in Dubai, would require the faculty member to teach courses in at least two of these aspects. The candidate would be a person with a distinguished track record in either teaching in fields such as Digital Transformation and Informatics, Sustainability and Urban Planning and the Social Sciences or experience in government customer-facing organisations that have transformed or are transforming themselves into ‘smart’ entities. The candidate would be expected to remain at the forefront of these fields during his/her tenure at RIT Dubai. The position reports to the Chair, Graduate Programs & Research Department. The selected faculty is expected to start in Spring 2020 in Dubai.


  • PhD in Urban Planning, Informatics, Economics, or a related field.
  • Documented experience in the application of techniques that transform cities.
  • Ability to bring real world experience and situations into the classroom.
  • Ability to mentor students in their Capstone projects, providing incisive guidance every step of the way.
  • Ability to motivate students in the classroom.
  • Teaching, research or work experience in sustainability, digital technologies that make cities smart, investment analysis, statistical methods and/or urban planning.
  • Excellent communication skills.
    The new faculty member in City Sciences will teach up to (three-four) courses each semester, including capstone research courses. Other duties include student advising, participation in committee work, assisting in the recruitment of students, mentoring students doing research and applied projects, and helping build relationships with industry and government ‘smart city’ organisations. Applied research in any field in City Science is encouraged.
