This Post-doctoral project is expected to be developed in collaboration with researchers from Projects 23 and 25 of USP’s Research Centre for Gas Innovation – RCGI (summary of these projects in found in the RCGI website at www.usp.br/rcgi ). Candidates with Energy Modelling expertise will work with convergent models for the Brazilian energy reality elaborating alternative medium and long-term Low Carbon scenarios . Candidates must demonstrate experience in energy and vehicle technology cost evaluation and viability, ability to estimate future energy demand, pollutant and GHG emissions and the impacts in society, so knowledge in statistics and LEAP platforms are positive factors.
Projects 23 and 25 of RCGI deal with future energy scenarios for Brazil assuming alternative Natural Gas demand perspectives in different economic segments such as industrial, residential, commercial, transportation and energy sector.
The Pos-doctoral candidate will interact with researchers from those projects providing strong background on:
(i) energy modelling technologies;
(ii) cost assessment of energy technologies;
(iii) development of energy planning models;
(iv) analysis of the medium and long-term trends in energy supply and demand for Brazil and São Pauloç
(v) studies on the use of compressed and/or liquefied natural gas in the transportation sector;
(vi) analysis of pollutant emissions and GHG;
(vii) impacts on society and its relation to Agenda 2030.
Candidates should be familiar with energy simulation and scenarios formulation. Modelling approaches will have to take into consideration estimate potential of different energy sources, such as natural gas, biomethane, ant other renewable source. Among alternative scenarios, candidates are expected to consider cases addressing decarbonisation strategies for Brazil, including replacements of natural gas by growing biomethane offers as well as carbon capture and storage (CCS).
Candidates must prove writing skills with publications in high impact international journals and are expected to co-author scientific articles together with RCGI’s projects teams.
The candidate, after an international selection, will be in charge of working on modelling of energy scenarios and, the use of natural gas on transport.
The researcher is expected to develop his/her research jointly with the other researchers of the mentioned projects, in order to allow him/her to receive the inputs needed for the research and to offer the adequate results to all involved projects as described above.
This interface proposed for the projects will be extremely significant, allowing a more productive use of human resources and contributing to achieve more rapidly the different objectives of each project.
INFORMATION ABOUT FELLOWSHIP
The selected candidate will receive a FAPESP Post-Doctoral fellowship in the amount of R$ 7.373,10 (about US$ 2,200 dollars) monthly payed in Reais and a research contingency fund (technical reserve), equivalent to 15% of the annual value of the fellowship which should be spent on items directly related to the research activity, as well as displacement funding, if necessary and applicable. More information about the fellowship is at: fapesp.br/en/postdoc
