The Department of International Studies at American University of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates seeks to hire a full-time faculty member in political science beginning in the Fall 2019. The successful candidate will have a focus in either comparative politics or international relations. Regional specialization is open, but candidates with an interest in the Middle East, East Asia or Europe are especially encouraged to apply. Candidates must be able to teach introductory classes in political science and international relations, as well as a range of upper-level courses in their field.
Successful candidates will have a PhD in Political Science; a record of excellent teaching, ideally of no less than one year; a proven record of scholarship; and an active research agenda. All department members are expected to contribute to a range of faculty and student-oriented service activities in what is a vibrant interdisciplinary department. The regular teaching load is 3-3, with support for conference and research travel.
As a university formed on the American model and with English as the language of instruction, the American University of Sharjah will give priority to candidates who have substantial experience in American models of higher education.
